High Tea

For Valentine's Day, Mumsy took me to Protea Cottage at Gardner Village for High Tea. I'd never been to High Tea before, so it was very new and exciting. The day wasn't bright and sunny on our way there. It was very snowy and a bit scary driving there. When we arrived at Gardner Village we went to Anastasia's Attic first, so I could buy Mumsy and myself alittle bling. Mumsy got a very blingy braclet and bought a crown ring. We were very sparkle-y!!

We went to the cottage next and took our places in the room upstairs. They had a table set aside just for us. And every table was full of chatty ladies and girls. (We did have one brave gentleman, too). Sweet little tables with rosebud petals and a rose floating in a clear teapot bud vase. Pretty teacups with lovely plates underneath and fancy folded napkin. Just elegant.

We chose what we wanted to drink. I chose a Rooibos (pronounced roy-boss) Creme de Caramel tea and Mumsy chose Pink Hot Chocolate. We shared of course. They brought the drinks in little teapots with tea cozy and ladybug "spout-drip-catcher-thingy". So, cute. On the table we had cream and sugar cubes. Sugar cubes are so fun and special.

After a little while we were brought a three-tier tray of little sandwiches and fruit. Ham and swiss on pumpernickle with a half cherry tomato. Hummus on pita with cucumber. Artichoke and spinach on wheat. Chicken salad on little croissants. And yes, cucumber sandwiches. Hugh blackberries, blueberry, red grapes and kiwi fruit slices. And hot out of the oven Scones (pronounced sk-on-ses).

We were sooo full, but then they had a chocolate and tea pairing. They served a different piece of chocolate with a different sample of tea they felt complimented each other. There were 5 chocolates and 5 teas.

Already full, this contributed to even more fullness. But, that's not all, after the pairing they served a chocolate parfait and chocolate dipped strawberries and white chocolate iced cookies (oh, and do you want a refill of your teapot??). They even gave prized to some of the attendees. It was the height of decadence and we rolled out the cottage vowing to return -- (when we could see over the top of our eyes once more.)

If you ever get the chance to attend a High Tea, take advantage of the wonderful English tradition. It isn't cheap but you will have one HECK of a great memory!!

I would think one would be required to wear gloves and hats to such a spot. :>)
